THE Q & A on ATM

Q. Just how big is the market for ATM ownership?
A. There were 8.3 billion ATM transactions performed in 1994.  It's predicted this will grow to over 13 billion by the year 2000.

Q. How can an individual ATM owner
compete with the bank ATM's?
A.  The answer is convenience.  That is why people flock to convenience stores rather than supermarkets because convenience is a strong motivator.   Banks encourage ATM use, no matter where they are located because it saves them money on expensive teller transactions and the need to open new branches.

Q. Are there still good locations out there?
A.  YES.  But they are going fast as the ATM explosion continues to gain momentum.  But like any ground floor opportunity, fast and decisive action is required if you want to make the most of the remaining good locations.

Q. Are there differences between individually owned ATM machines and bank machines?
A. Yes.  Individually owned ATM's are cash dispensing only.  They cannot handle bank deposits, etc.  They are withdrawal only machines.  This is a feature that retail merchants and other locations most appreciate.  It concentrates on placing cash in the ATM users' hands... giving them cash to spend in their location.

Q. What should I look for in choosing the best location for my ATM?
A.  High traffic stores are excellent.  The 7-11 convenience chain reported 110 million ATM transactions a year.

Q. I have no experience in the field. How would I handle it?
A.  That's one of the benefits of this business.  No experience, no special skills are needed.  Your ATM does all the work.  You reap all the benefits and profits.

Q. If I choose a location that doesn't work out, am I stuck with it?
A.  No.  That's another key feature of ATM ownership.  If your ATM doesn't live up to your expectations, you can arrange for a new location that holds out more promise and move it.

Q.  Will it be difficult to convince a local merchant to host my ATM?
A.  Many merchants are ready and waiting to have an ATM in their location.  It brings in more customer.  They spend more because they have ready cash... and the host location earns something on every transaction.  It also eliminates getting checks and credit card authorizations.

Q. How much day-to-day involvement will I have?
A.  Little, if any.  Almost everything you need is included in the cost.  Full arrangements are made for you on such things as insurance, maintenance, armored services and cash vault services.

Q. I don't like to be a pioneer.  Is the ATM business a new one?
A.  Not at all.  It is hard to imagine a life without automated teller machines.  The public has had more than twenty years to appreciate the convenience they offer. It is an opportunity to participate in a tested and proven concept, which has been around for decades.  But the big news is that now you can get involved as an individual ATM owner.

Q. If my location is in an area with non-English speaking population, can the ATM be adjusted for this?
A.  Yes.  The options on the screen can be displayed in different languages.

Q. Normally it takes a while to make a sound business decision.  Why must I act very quickly on this one?
A.  Locations are the answer.  The high traffic, good ones are going fast.  Every day someone waits to get in on the action means more of the top locations are disappearing.  Location makes this a situation that calls for prompt and immediate action.
